Computer won't turn on? Need Help

My desktop won't turn on. Actually, it acts like it is going to because the lights turn on but then turn off after a few seconds. The monitor light never turns green, the keyboard light does not come on. The mouse does seem to have power. The fans are running.

Is this a power supply? Or maybe a mother board failure? I have had memory problems when making a CD so I assume it could be a memory chip.

How can isolate the problem? Or, is there someone on this board that has a shop or can recommend one with fair pricing? Best Buy wants $60 fofr the diagnostic only and does not apply any of it the repair. I can repair it If it is a power supply or memory chip.

couple of questions

1) is GPU built onto the motherboard or do you have a graphics card (try using onboard if you have to make sure it's not your video card)

2) do you have two sticks of ram? trying pulling one out if you have 2 of them

3) take the processor out and boot the computer on....see if it will boot into the bios if it does it's your cpu

I do have an onboard GPU I believe. Or maybe it's the sound card. I will have to look at the memory. Will any of these problems produce the symptoms I described?

I just had the same problem. Disconnected the drives, pulled all but one stick of RAM, etc.. Decided it probably was the motherboard, so I RMA'd it with the egg.. I'll find out if I was right in a few days when the replacement arrives.
