Lightbulb Spyware problems with PC...How/where to fix?

The computer at my parent's house is pretty much fucked. I'm tired of messing with it because I've tried everything I know to do. There is an infinite number of popups, icons that place themselves on the desktop that are impossible to remove(they keep reappearing). I downloaded a demo version of Norton AntiVirus and it supposedly removed almost 2000 items, but it didn't really help. The one thing I didn't do is the option where the computer is reverted back to its original state and the HD is wiped clean. Anyone know where I can get somebody to fix it? How much does something like this usually run? Or if one of the many skilled pc people on here wanna take a look at, let me know. TIA.

You can try loading spybot search and destroy or microsofts anti spyware. Antivirus will only remove viruses not spyware usually. If its that bad off you might be better off to just reload the OS.

If you don't have all the drivers and the OS CD it could be a pain. Depending on how old the hardware is it can get to the point where the labor costs could exceed the value of the hardware.

Check and see what best buy, compusa, etc charges to reload the OS. Keep in mind they will not back up any data and most likely just to a basic load and you will still need to patch the OS.

I usually do this type of stuff still for family members but its usually not worth my time to mess with it for what people would want to spend. Check around and see if someone you know can do it or just give it a try yourself.
