Anyone good with computers, having a problem

hey guys... I have 3 computers here at my shop, 1 of them is an older computer. It has Windows Me and probably like a PII 800mhz, 128mb or somewhere around there... its not anything fancy, but I only use 1 program and thats its sole purpose.

about a month ago it started acting up. I did a scandisc, spyware program, blah blah and didnt help. I would turn the computer on, and if it sat for more than like 3 mins, i would get the blue screen error... and no matter what I did, i would have to restart the computer and lose whatever I had.... problem occured ALL the time....

so today I brought in my Windows Me disc to just reinstall windows and my one software program I have on there and figure I would just start from scratch... well now I have another problem...

This is a HP computer and on a NORMAL day when you boot up... you get this Blue screen with HP logo on it, then you would see the Windows ME screen, then the desktop would load up....

well now all of a sudden when I turn it on, it wont go pass the HP logo screen... It doesnt even try and load up windows... so I tried poping in a windows boot disc in floppy drive, tried pressing DEL key to do BIOS, I even had an old HD laying around and swapped it out and still stays stuck on the HP LOGO screen and wont do anything....

is there anything I can do to get passed this and re install windows so I can use this computer???

i dont really hear anything... certainly no beeps. you can VERY, and I mean VERY quickly hear a slight noise coming from the hard drive like it reads it for a half second.... but like i said... you turn it on and it goes directly to this HP logo screen and does nothing else.. no sounds, no cd rom spin, no HD spin, nothing.... just stuck

As soon as you turn the PC on, just start hitting the F1 button like crazy. If you're lucky you can force a keyboard error, that way you're able to go into BIOS.

First, check boot sequence. Then check and make sure that BIOS sees the drive. Make sure the memory is correct. If you have 4 sticks of 32MB and 3 of them are bad, Windows ME probably won't load on 32MB of Ram....

If everything pans out ok there, boot the PC up manual to try and get to a dos prompt. Format c: if you have backups of everything and then try to reinstall Windows.. unless you want to wait for other individual's suggestions.

If you have any other peripherials hooked to this PC other than a mouse and a keyboard, you might want to disconnect those as well, they could be causing a conflict.

By the way, my fee is $45/hour.

could be your power supply, that would couse problems after about 3 min. the second problem could be a progression of the power supply problem. The hard drive trying to start and then stopping further supports this. If its not the power supply it could be the hard drive. If your good with a VOM check to see if your 5v and 12v outputs are working. I think the yellow is 5 and teh red is 12 but I'm not 100% sure. either way you should have both on the molex connectors.
