I think it's going to bomb compared to XBOX 360. The XBOX has so much more to offer and potential compared to the PS3. The only pull is going to be game availibility from the past just like the PS2 had the pull over XBOX and GameCube to start with.
what is Xbox 360 going to have over PS3, hell we don't even know what each one's full capabilities are and already you are downing Sony. I'm thinking the cell processor system will kick Xbox360's ass to tell you the truth.
It doesn't seem to be the monster (Cell compared to the 360's CPU) that everyone was claiming it would be. It would seem to have the equivalent of 1 more "core" than the 360. I guess it all boils down to the video which is much better in the PS3. It's going to be up to the software devs to actually take advantage of it.
Oh, and hopefully some 3rd parties will redesign that godawful controller.
I'll be surprised to see the final cost of each unit when they become available. They are obviously gonna be more expensive then the Xbox or PS2. The video processor in the new PS3 is equivalent to two high quality nvidia video cards each at about 500 dollars. Plus the cell processor and other high end things they have thrown in there. These are systems that obviously arent gonna be sold for a mere 300-400 dollars.
Just like you could buy a mustang back in the 60's for a couple grand and now you can get one from 18-30k...costs change with time. Prices arent gonna stay the same as the last generation of consoles. $400 would be the lowest IMO.
They're going to have to keep it under $250 to keep people interested. I wouldn't exactly want to go out and buy a new system for much more than that and I doubt most people could justify something that expensive.
As for the PS3, most of it is a lot of I heard this and that, and rumors. Haven't been a lot of official stuff, unlike the XBOX premier. I think they're waiting for E3 to pull out everything they have. Maybe it's just that they don't want to put as much money into it like XBOX did, but everybody knows everything the XBOX 360 is capable of and has the potential for. I haven't seen shit for PS3 in terms of PR or advertising. The edge that XBOX 360 has over PS3 is that it's going to connect with computers and other windows based stuff which almost everyone has. The PS3 is just claiming it can blah blah blah "just like XBOX 360." Almost as it riding on it's coat tails, which might not be too good for them right now. If I saw that every system was equal except for that XBOX 360 can hook up to my computer and all the other windows apps that I have, I'd buy it over the PS3. And that is why I think it's going to tank...plus it comes out 4 months after the xbox and a lot of people like Christmas gifts over Secretaries Day gifts.
Weird ass controller alright. I would agree that the price would have to come in at $300 or less for it to be widely accepted. Who would want to pay, let's say $400 for a console, $50 for an extra controller, $50 for your first game, and adding tax brings it to around $540 for a system with 1 game?
