I'm getting 30C with my water cooler at idle, and 42C after playing Doom3 for 30 minutes. 1280x1024x24bit with no fans ;p

The before temps were 40C idle and 60C after playing for 30 minutes at the same resolution using the stock XFX fan/heatsink.

Show me where you are reading that. I bought mine after doing a lot of research on FPS, pcie benchmarks, and Dual DVI output. Not one review said anything about lackluster in the quality deptartment.

Also, with temp issues. .at what aprox temp do you start seeing performance degrdation?

Mine doesnt really get hot enough to notice anything, atleast not now that I got the water cooler on. If you overclock it, I'm sure that you'll notice issues. The AGP variant of the XfX is actually slower than the pcie version, the MDR on the PCIE is 1000mhz where the agp is 900mhz. I had to put heat sinks on my memory modules on the card as the water cooler doesnt cool those.

The only thing I know is XFX had an issue with was when they first released there 6600GT. But they soon fixed the problems afterwards.

AbecX: That water cooler on your 6600GT works pretty good. My 6800GT is clocked to ultra speeds, and idles at 48c and maxes out at 60c after 2 hours of playing AAO, and I was monitoring temps with RivaTuner.

How do I got about overclocking my 6600GT, I have the temp available obviously to go faster, and I have ram sinks on my memory modules. I'm open to some advice on this to see if I can notice any remarkable difference.

you could download the coolbits registry "hack"
and that will open up a clock frequency setting in the Nvidia Control Panel.
It can be found here
or you can download RivaTuner, which can be found here

RivaTuner will also install the coolbits registry "hack" if you overclock with it.
And will "force" settings if you can't pass a certain clock speed in the Nvidia Control Panel.

EDIT:
I recommend installing Coolbits and then click on "detect optimal frequency" or something like that in the Clock Frequency Settings in the NV Control Panel. Also
ONLY overclock in Performance 3D.

Awesome, I installed that reghack, but I cant see the new options till I get home ( term serv only shows the virtual display ). I wonder if I can get some nice improvements. I need to figure out how to get FPS for WoW and Doom3.

What are the stock clocks on your 6600GT??
isn't it something like 500/1000 ?

EDIT: Also what drivers are you using? If your using 71.84 they have a temp bug, and will actually show you a higher temp then it really is.

I just found someone that was able to push his XFX to 560/1200 on watercooling.
So good luck man.

The drivers I am using say 6.6.3.1 NVIDIA 8/25/2004. I used the ones on the cd.

Yes, the stock clock on the pcie version is 500/1000

You should try updating the drivers to the newest ones on the Nvidia Web-Site they are
71.89. They have great Image Quality, and seem to be the best drivers I used since I've had my 6800GT.

Oh and if you have time check This Out.
It's a guy with a ghetto modded cooler, and a volt mod and he's able to reach 600 on the core, and 1175 on the mem.
But his is an AGP so I do believe you'd be able to hit a higher clock on the mem then him without the volt mod (it can be dangerous).

lol I'm not going to do anything drastic, just increase memory bandwidth which doom3 likes, and maybe get a few mhz out of the gpu.

Yeah I thought so. But it shows what the 6600GT is capable of, and that's the point I was trying to get across.
I'm still looking for a cheap 6800GT (like that will ever happen) so I can volt mod and "play" with.

That game looks pretty damn good! I'm glad your happy with your performance, what did you manage to get the clocks to? And did you update the drivers?

Looks amazing!

561/1.17 is what I have the clock speed at right now, the water cooler goes into the gpu then to the cpu, I have it lowered just a bit so it keeps everything below 40C when under load. Didnt update the drivers yet.

I did the auto find and it said that 571/1.19 was ok, but I didnt want to risk it, it bumped my idle temps up to 32C on cpu and video card. Lol why am I complaining, thats still pretty low

Try these two sites linked below. Especially go into the forum and do some reading. There is some great info on just about anything you want to know about video cards. you can also download just about any driver or utility software to do what you want. There are some great modded drivers available that add all the extra control panel features. I have used the XG, NGO, Omega, and DHzeropoint drivers and get some really good results. I am running DHzeropoint 76.44 on my 6800GT and the quality/performance is unreal. I prefer the Omega drivers for ATI cards. Good Luck.
