How to remove files from list of background pics?

When changing the desktop background in windows, how do you remove pictures from the list? I'm talking about pictures I have saved on my hard drive that I've used for backgrounds before. Anyways, how do you take pics off the list so they don't show up anymore? TIA.

In Windows XP, the images that are shown in the list of Desktop backgrounds comes from the BMP or JPEG images that are stored in c:\WINDOWS or C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper.

If you select an image from another directory, it is enumerated into the registry and then converted to a file name Wallpaper.bmp, which is stored in your profile.

When you change to a different pic, and close the display properties dialog, then reopen, the old picture name, should not be there, unless it was already saved to the above directories.

So if the picture is not in C:\Windows or C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper, then something different is happening.

This is in Windows XP. I don't know about the others.
