What is causing this

I am setting up a new system: MSI k8n platinum and a AMN 64 3000. When I plug in the keyboard the computer shuts off. If I turn the power on while the keyboard is plugged in it will start up then shut down. This does not happen with the mouse or if I plug the mouse in the keyboard ps2 hole. Is there a short in the board?

remove the board from the system and see if you have the brass mount fittings in the correct spot. I'm sure you have one grounding out the system... If you want take the board all the way out of the system and then try it...... chances are it will work fine..

Do you have a USB keyboard you can test with?

Well you could just buy one, then return it when your done.

Just be sure to do what L4m3r says first. He's right, you could be grounding out somewhere.

The only precautions you need to take are to unplug the system and make sure all power is discharged (hold the ON button down for 10 seconds) And then make sure you are properly grounded before proceeding.

So I ran the board outside the case and I could at least plug in the keyboard. As soon as I would hit a key the system would shut down. I am just going to return the board and get a new one.

I got it off of e-bay, the guy offers a 30 day return. I can get a brand new one off of new-egg for the same damn price.
