I think my PCMCIA port is bad

Or something....... my wireless didn't work when I got to my hotel. I thought it was the hotel or the Lynksys interface card was bad or something, but I plugged the card into my work computer and the wireless fired right up.

Now I am trying to get some video into my computer from my new camcorder. I bought a FireWire interface - it is an Adaptec Fireconnect for Notebooks. From that I use the IEEE 1394 cable to connect to the Camera.

I downloaded Windows Movie Maker last night and never could get the computer and camera to talk - Although I got an icon in my system tray that says it sees a video device.

Today I bought Sony Movie Studio loaded it up and the best I can do using the program to control the camera is to rewind it, and start capture, but during the capture, it never displays the video on the computer screen - although the camcorder starts up and plays.

Then it eventually craps out and says there is a communication error and to reset the camera.

How can I at least see if my PCMCAI (or whatever you call it) port is functioning properly?

Compag Presario 2100
Windows XP
512 Meg Ram
40G drive..
