Where can I get my ps2 fixed?

I thought someone said that gamestop fixed them but if anyone has any other suggestions that would be great.

Pretty sure Gamestop DOES NOT fix them. I'm sure they'll buy yours and then sell you a refurbished one for like 10x the cost, but they won't repair your actual PS2 for a decent cost. Sorry to clutter up your post, but I'm just bumping it because I also wanna know, I have 2 POS Ps2s.

Well in the middle of my football game it would pause for 10-15 secs (which it has never done). So I thought that the lazer lens needs to be cleaned and did that and afterwards it nows says Disc Read Error

DRE's are very common problem with the first couple of generations ps2's, sometimes cleaning wont help and you'll have to replace the laser ( $30 hardware ). I've done one before, I've also cleaned one before without replacing the laser as well. You should be able to clean it and it work, if not, the laser is burnt out and will have to be replaced. I can do the replacement for $20 + $30 for hardware, you might want to ante up and just by a new one by then.

If you can look at the bootup screen ( when you dont put a cd in, the screen that pops up ), you can get a hardware model number, it should be like SHC or scp ( acronyms are killing me right now ), tell me what it says and I can find out how old your ps2 is and if it is affected by the common DRE probs.

yes, a regular cd uses a different type of laser then a dvd.

Does it have a letter after it? If not, that was one of the original ones during the first US release. Clean the laser with one of those cd cleaners, and take the case off the box ( 8 screws on the bottom, be carefuly when you pull the top off, it has a cable that plugs up to the reset/eject button ) and use a old toothbrush to clean out the front grates of dust/debris. Try and get as much dust out of it as possible and you should be back to playing games.

If you just moved it around on the track nah, but if you tried to reposition it on a veritcal axis, the laser might have to be realigned

Yeha there is a little white wheel in the back and i moved but i do believe i got it back in the right position. but im still thinking the laser itself took a shit. and if thats the case then i think with the limited space i got i will just get the slimline version.

I forgot to mention this earlier, if you have the DRE problem sometimes setting the ps2 up and down instead of flat will make it easier for the laser to read the cd.
