HDD backup

What is a good utility for backing up an entire HDD? Preferrably something that compresses data quite a bit so I can fit a 40Gb HDD on 1 or 2 DVDs, if possible.

You're not going to be able to compress 40GB down to 9GB. Its going to take at least 5 or 6 of them.

Ok, cool then. Do these backup programs automatically span the disks?

i think NERO 6 ultra did that, I had nero 6, and it had an option to back up an entire drive, and I do believe it would ask you to "insert next disk" and such.
so try Nero (trial edition) and see if that works.
or if your near Garland, come pick up a CD of Nero 6 ultra
