new laptop

in the market for a laptop, (I do some graphic design and a bit of programming and the basic webdesign so i need a better than average system) i checked the dell site first because of the prices and found that most of them use the pentium m processor which i heard was a POS and alienware laptops are bit out of the price range so i was browsing and found sony vaio laptops...

anyone have one or know someone that does that can give me any feedback on them.

or if you know of anything else more in my pricerange of under $1,500 let me know

The P4m's aren't horrible, per say... just a bit deceiving. I had a 1.9 P4m, which meant 1.2GHz idle, 1.9GHz under load. I never really could figure out what was required to make the processor run under load, because it almost always was at 1.2GHz, even when working in Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and having a movie being encoded to DivX ... all at the same time.

But I would prefer an actual P4 over a P4m, if prices are the same/similar. I almost never ran my laptop without it being hooked up to an outlet, so battery power isn't so much a concern of mine.

I have several Sony Vaio's here at work and we have nothing but problems with them. I also have a junk one at home that someone gave to me because they were tired of dealing with it. The newest one we have has been repaired four times in the last year. Do some searching on the web and you will find the Vaio laptops are not very reliable and there tech support sucks. We now only use Dell and HP/Compaq with few problems from either. Try this place in Carrolton that sells Refurbs with warranty.
