Computer/XBox help

Hey guys, I need some help with my computer/xbox. I just got dsl about a month ago and got the modem with the home networking capability. My g/f is tired of me hogging the dsl to play xbox live. I know that you can share the connection using a router, but do I need one since I have the home network ability?? Also, is there a way that I can share the connection without a router?? Thanks.

I work @ verizon and we get this question a lot. You could use ICS but that might not work well. I would recommend a router it is very simple.

I don't want to sound stupid, but what's ics?? Also, I've heard that you need some kind of adapter in order to hook up the xbox to the router. Is this true?? If so, what is it that I need??

ICS = Internet connection sharing. You have 2 nics and one goes to the other computer, and you act like the gateway I believe. What kind of modem do you have?

Oh, thanks. I'm not sure off hand, I'll have to check when I get home. But I just wanted to see if it's possible without a router.

Also, I use my xbox thur a switch then to the router and I haven't had a prob. I also used "my own" wireless connection at once also. I just believe all you have to do it port forwarding.

I second that cheap routers. You should be able to buy one for like $30
