dell laptop making a humming noise

I have an older Dell laptop it is making a humming noise.It seems like its humming in the floppy drive from the best I can tell thats where it is coming from.

its a Dell model: pps latitude xpi p100sd

It has windows 98 on it. it only has a 2 gig hard drive and I do not know what proccessor it has other then its slow...lol..Thx for any help..

agreed...flip it over and look for vents in the bottow and listen to see if it is the fan. That's a pretty cheap fix. And yes they are annoying as hell.

had one do the exact same thing ....
i took it apart to see what it was ...come to find out is was the drive ..........

put it back together ...sold it .......and bought a new one

More than likely it's a fan or hard drive... never heard of floppy drives making humming noises though.

Is the floppy drive removable? If so, take it out and see if the noise goes away... also do you notice it all the time or does it start after the computer is on for a while?

mine did that.. and then burst into flames, sued dell because they didnt have warnings saying you couldnt use the laptop in the rain and they told me to go to hell...damnit why didnt I spill coffee on myself before that damn woman did..
