Thumbs up Ad-hoc wireless network results

I went and got a USB d-link wireless adapter tonight to replace the linksys wireless PCI card. Installed the driver, rebooted, plugged in the adapter, windows recognized the adapter and installed it.

Double clicked on the d-link icon in the tray, set the appropriate settings, and bam! connected on the first try.

Still couldn't get the machines to see each other. Then I installed the old netbios over IPX protocol on both machines and suddenly life was good. I had to use that since XP didn't have a choice for netbeui.

I still can't explain why IP didn't seem to work........ I did all the usual stuff like turning off the firewall. Someone said on the other thread that they also had to install netbeui to get their ad-hoc network to work. I guess that's something to look out for. Might also be a problem between XP and W2K(?).

I think the old linksys card would have worked also with IPX/netbios up until the point that the card started to refuse to see the wireless network. I can't explain that one either.

The network is pretty quick. I just pulled over and watched the 26mb winter cruise vid. Took no time at all.

And there you have it.
