PS2 CPU Hacking

Has anyone ever overclocked or upgraded the CPU in a ps2? I know they use a GPU thats soldered onto the board which probably complicates matters. Let me know if any of you have looked at this stuff before.

I found out that the gpu is actually decent, the sluggishness comes mainly from the seek speed of the dvdrom, its a 4x dvd reader ( 24x cdrom ), and the laser on certain models suck ass. I'm going to read further into it and see about upgrading the laser.

Fuck yeah I found my fix, there is an app called hdloader, you plug up a hard drive to the network adapter and you can rip games and play them from your hard drive. Here is a snippit from someone that has done this and plays his ps2 games from a 120GB drive...

Load times are almost completely gone when you play ripped games from the hard drive. For instance, Tony Hawk Underground has an incredible amount of waiting time between levels, but now the loading bar gets a fourth of the way full and I'm zipped straight to the next level. There are no more pauses in the Grand Theft Auto games between areas. Cinemas and levels load instantly and fighting games play more like the arcade versions when you don't have to wait for your characters to load. It's amazing, and it has pumped more life into my PS2 gaming habits. You never realize how annoying long load times are until they're taken away. This is worth price of admission alone.
