Question Can I hook a laptop hard disk to a USB port?

Seems like I saw somewhere where there is a cable for this.

I'll be needing to copy my old smaller hard disk to a larger one soon.

Old laptop, USB is the best I have other than an ethernet connection.

What'll work, what's cheap, and where can I get it? I need the new disk to appear as another drive letter so I can copy the old one to it. I have the software to make the copy (drive image), just need a cable to the new disk for the copy.

I believe there is a cable adapter to do that, though a better way would be to put in a laptop hdd case, they aren't that much and will protect the drive.

might look at one of those 2.5" usb external enclosures that you could put the lt drive in. Might be able to reuse it or if you keep the receipt return it when you are done

OK thanks.

I'm being a cheap ass and am trying to get my laptop to last another year before shelling out for a new one. I'm posting this using my new, just installed $89 eBay motherboard
(old one had a bad memory slot).

In fact, it appears that I could keep this laptop going indefinitely for cheap by using eBay parts.

those 2.5" cases are dang cheap. I think as little as 10-15 bux can get you a 1.1 speed usb case.
