DVD Burn question!I know....AGAIN!

I'm looking to build a computer for the sole purpose of backing up my DVDs. And maybe knocking out a science project or two for the kids. Anyhow, what bare bones requirements will do I need to get this to work (i.e. software, hardware, memory, etc)? I've seen on here that people say to buy a cheaper computer like a P4 with a small amount of memory and go from there, but I'm not computer savvy enough to do this on my own. So I'm here looking for advice. Could I go to Dell and buy the basics on there and upgrade on my own, or would it be cheaper to just have them build it and send it my way?I'm not even going to have internet on this computer so I'm pretty much looking for a box that will burn my DVDs.
I know this topic has been done to DEATH but I would really appreciate any help I could get!

Yeah go to dell buy a cheap PC with a P4 and then go to fry's electronics and buy a DVD burner. I bought a 8x dual dvd burner for 59 bucks a few weeks ago, I am using DVD X copy plat. but you can't buy DVD X Copy any more, you could download dvd shrink from www.dvdshrink.com and use that program its free, but I have had some trouble with it, but hey it works and its free. You just have to find some software that can take the movie and compress it cause dvd movies can be like 7.5 gb and DVD+R and DVD-R are only 4.6 gb I hope this helped you.

dells are good pcs ...and alot of people use them

if you plan on keeping it for a while ....i wouldnt go with a dell
you cant upgraded them too much
you cant overclock them ....at all
and their support absuletly sux donkey dix !!!!

dell sells their machine cheap ...because thats what they are .....cheap ...
the put basic everything in them ....and their choice of hdd sux ass

if you do buy one ...change the hd the sec you get it home
put in a seagate

but as you were saying before i started my rampage ...
a p4 2.0 or higher
with a fsb of 800
AND
the capiobility of holding and running i-2 gig of 533 ddr mem
you need at least 512 for what you want to do ....a gig will burn quicker for you

if you have some cash ......1200-1600 you can put together a screaming machine that will last you years

500-700 will get you a basic pc that will "get the job done in a reasonable amount of time "

They support is bad ass, if you get that inhome support shit. They replaced both of my bosses laptops on the spot, replaced a screen and keyboard. Only took 1 day after the call.
