Taking videos from camera to computer

I'm just wondering what exactly I need to do to pull videos from my JVC camera and put them on my computer... The camera has a USB port and a Firewire port. The techs at best buy said I HAD to have a firewire cable and firewire card in my pc to get the video and sound of my PC. Can anyone verify if this is true or can I just use the USB port on the camera and transfer the video over? Also, I'm having problems getting my pc to recognize the camera when I plug it in. I'm thinking I need some drivers but all the drivers I have for the camera are win98, damn xp. Anyways, any help would be much appreciated.

I dont think you can transfer video with usb cable, I think just pictures from the camera. I could be wrong though. Firewire is something you'll want for transfering video because its going to be quite large and usb tops out at around 12mbps I think. My little brother has a JVC, I dont know if he has plugged it up to the computer or not, but he might be able to help you out.

BB tech was right, you will need Firewire. Should be ~$10 at Fry's, $30-40 at BB/CompUSA/CC.

the card is cheap... make sure you get one with the cable in it save your ass in the long run... most places i've found the cable are like 30 bucks unless you go to fry's

I prob have the same JVC camera. You have to use Firewire to move the movies off the camera. USB only works for the "dig. camera" for taking pictures.
