Guys Help and Advice Please

I have some issuses confronting me and need help.

1.) WHat is best option for stopping all popups from happening? I am continually getting popups on my screen even when I am not surfing the net. I have DSL by the way.

2.) I keep getting a runtime error in C++ library and this is causing IE explorer to shut down. Reinstall it???

3.) What is best program and clean up tool for detecting and getting SPyware and similiar stuff off of the computer and preventing this from getting there?

4.) Is Norton or McAfee better or is there something better on the market than these two?

Install a popup blocker (one built into xp sp2, google toolbar, etc)

2.) I keep getting a runtime error in C++ library and this is causing IE explorer to shut down. Reinstall it???

Fix other issues and make sure all IE patches installed

3.) What is best program and clean up tool for detecting and getting SPyware and similiar stuff off of the computer and preventing this from getting there?

Adaware, CWshredder, Pest Patrol, Spybot Search and Destroy

I prefer the Symantec products myself but keep your definitions current.

If you have DSL I recommend a linksys/dlink broadband router/firewall so your pc isnt directly exposed to the internet.

We use McAfee at work and I use Norton at home. I always have preferred Norton. As far was Spyware goes I like Webroot's Spy Sweeper the best. It seems to find items that other programs won't. You can also try Spybot Search and Destroy or Adaware SE. I actually run all three rotating between them. Sometimes one will pick something up that the other won't.

Same here Norton & spysweeper are pretty good. My only problem with spysweeper is that it finds this adware called "CSW_NS3" don't know what that is. I delete it & when I reboot & run spysweeper it still pops up, but thing is I'm not on internet. Can't get rid of that Da$n thing. Still trying to find out how to get rid of it. Other than that I have no pop ups at all
