I installed it - then removed it after some funky shit started happening...I'll wait for them to release a couple patches first before throwing it back on there...

Dont give me that shit.. SP2 for XP makes the framework service for virus scan 7.1 not work right.. This can cause some major problems for network secuirty if virus scan software isnt running right..

Before you install SP2 clean your shit of any spyware/adware bullshit. SP2 fixes a huge number of security holes and most of the calls that are coming in are because of spyware/adware and viruses that were already on the box.

Some third party video and sound card utilities have issues, but that isn't MS's fault...it's the fault of the 3rd party for exploiting security vulnerabilites in their RTM product.

And toolman, you are a fucking moron.

Here is why I dont support SP2.. First off EPO agent 3.1 to 3.5 are not supported with SP2 for XP which means I would have to upgrade every machine in the building to Virus Scan version 8.0 that they released and I have not had the time to test it.. and since virus scan 8.0 has a lot of new features included that could cause some major production issues im not even going to try it.. so im going to stay with what works and keep SP1 running unless I need SP2 for a known issue and we have none..

The system restore didn't work anymore

I installed it on my work computer and my laptop at home, both running McAfee 7.1. Works fine for me. No problems from anything. Maybe its just ya'll We too have blocked it from Windows Update as well as blocking the executable from running. Mainly because we a a ton of one-off, in-house apps that we need to test before we release it.

Some of the more noticeable changes are it has a built in pop-up blocker, turns on i-net firewall by default and an add-in manager for IE. I say install it. Works perfect for me, no side effects.

Now, if you think you're a semi-computer smart but you wonder why you have pop-ups and spyware when you "haven't done/installed anything" then don't. Chances are the spyware installed will not go well with the internet/network changes SP2 makes.

ePolicy Orchestra you mental dumbfuck. Problably the most poorly written and memory leak prone piece of garbage ever produced by McAffee (which isn't saying much since all their sofware is garbage).

Then again, why am I talking to you? You aren't an admin, you are a lowly helpdesk phone jockey that fills out help desk tickets for secretaries that can't figure out why they are typing in all caps.

Worse yet, you can't cut it there so you want to get into construction? BWAHAHA.

I have spybot on my laptop, so I should not install it because of conflicts?

The reason I want to go into construction is because I understand there is a lot of money to be made in CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT.. And I had a job lined up, but because of the election home building is down so i have to wait till early next year.
And yes I am an Admin and I run my own Computer repair biz on the side.

I've installed SP2 on a few workstations here (testing) and it is working perfectly fine, both on PCs that had Spybot before going to SP2, and on the ones that got Spybot loaded after the upgrade.

Virus protection is fine (NAV 7.6). It is updating normally (LiveUpdate), and catching known infected files in testing.

We have all brand new small form factor Dell Optiplex GX270 workstations with Pentium4 2.8 GHz processors. No hardware issues whatsoever.

I'm a fan of SP2, if only for the cool pop up blocker that allows you to receive them if you want them (like PM notifications from www.dfwstangs.net).

Are those prebuilt units, or are they custom?

Mine is a HP Prebuilt, but its hardware is modded out. SP2 more than likely conflicted 1 or more of my drivers. I had no choice but to reformat.
