you cant make it B.. b is reserved for a floppy drive.. what you can do is use say partition magic to "deallocate" XXX meg from your drive..
boot from a linux install D.. tell it to install on your unused space and use lilo to controll which OS you boot from..

do you have un partitioned drive space?? if so.. what distro are you going to install? most of the newbie distros will configure your unparitioned space autmatically... linux doesnt have any of the C: or D: crap... so windows will look exactly the same.

what they said.

Its not too tough but once you set it that way your pretty well stuck unless you want to reload the whole system.

I've got my work laptop dual booting XP and FC2

2007 Taurus SEL - daily driver
1974 El Camino SS - 400sb

if you have free unpartitioned space on your drive.. boot to slackware and run cfdisk and you can create a swap and a linux partion with your free space.. if you have no free space you need use the suggestion above and use partition magic to free up some free space.

once you get your freespace.. you just run "setup" and it will walk you through a little ugly installer.. its ugly but it is simple and quick.

once you install slackware you will need to fire up some lilo changes so you can boot into windows... its not hard I or others can walk you thorugh once you get slack running.

yes, it just depends on the distro you choose as to how you get to that option.
