My computer crapped out on me!
I don't know if I got a virus or what but it's fuuuuucked. I can't even get it to boot up.
Who works on computers? I can bring it to you and pay for whatever needs to be done.... I just need it fixed.

If its just the software you can probably just reload it or restore the factory install and at least get back up and running.

Yeah it's giving me an error message about Windows. I don't have a copy of the software and I don't know how to restore it.

If you don't have a copy of the cd to reload the os then your definately going to need some help.
If you don't have any original CD's then you'll have to find someone willing to help out in that kind of situation.

It says something along the lines of this:
"Cannot find ?? files are missing or corrupted. Please insert disk to install ???" That's about all I remember. It's in the trunk of my car right now.

what version of windows are you running? when will you have the computer set up?
i can probably fix it, just sounds like the MBR is corrupted or something. gimee a shout and we'll figure it out.

LOL...i hope you only brought the tower, and not the monitor and all the peripherals.
I'll try and grab an XP disk from work... if recreating the MBR doesn't work, you MAY lose everything... but that'll be a last resort..
I've got class until about 10:00 the rest of the week, shoot me a PM when it would be cool for me to stop by, or you can bring it over and i can plug it up in my room and work on it.

Ok... so I went and bought a new hard drive. The tech people at CompUSA said I should install the new hard drive, load XP on it then transfer the files from the old drive to the new one. Yeah well, I'm now trying to transfer the files but it won't open up the other drive without asking me to format it first. How can I get past that? Or have I basically lost everything?

ok... what I am going to say is try at your own risk..
but.. I think you will need to "import foreign disc" right-click my computer, go to manage, go to Disk Management.
in the lower aera you should see "disk 0" and "disk 1", if you right click on "disk 1" you should see an optin for... "import foreign disk" once you do this you should be able to get into the drive without having it ask you to format

honestly I do not know what it means. It is a term that Windows uses for some hard drives, maybe one of the MS Employees can hit up the Visual KB and enlighten us all. I check on microsoft but could not find anything about it.
