Website Design Help Needed.....

Ok, I’m familiar with HTML and “some” JAVASCRIPT and all but this is something new I’m wanting to try. I want to know how to make a picture link to different areas of the website.

Example: I have a picture of my car on the homepage and want to make it to where you can click on the hood and will go to the “engine” page, click on the “wheels”, and it will take you to the wheels/tires/brakes page, etc….etc. I’ve seen this on many, many web-pages but have never done it.

Does anyone on here know how to do this and can explain it to me as simple as possible?

Thanks in advance, and I know this is technically in the wrong forum but no one is ever in the computer forum

What program are you using to build the site? It is pretty easy in Dreamweaver.

BTW you would use an area map and tell it the coordinates that you want each link to be.

Should look something like this:

<-img src="your picture.jpg" width="800" height="533" border="0" usemap="#Map"->
<-map name="Map"->
<-area shape="poly" coords="253,199,50,286,100,314,388,321,535,297,653,193" href="enginepage.htm" target="_self"->
<-area shape="poly" coords="677,287,641,414,645,510,684,476,688,315" href="wheels.htm" target="_self"->
<-area shape="poly" coords="393,117,288,187,673,185,653,109" href="interior.htm" target="_self"->

just without all the - in there

well, I'm not using a program. I'm just writing HTML for the pages and then upload them with an FTP server to the site.

Maybe I need to invest in a program to do this then?

Truthfully what I would do is download a trial version of Dreamweaver because it is pretty easy. But if you use the basis for the code I typed out that would work too, although you would have to figure out the coordinates on your picture relative to where it sits on the page.

you dont even need dreamweaver...

just search for a standalone program, a image mapper, or image map

real simple to write and you can even do it without the program once you get familiar with the code... just use any image editing program to get your coordinates and write the code yourself... but anyway, you can only download the trial version of dreamweaver and if you dont know how to crack it then it aint worth downloading. just get an image mapper, alot smaller and easier to use
