iwconfig.. help!!!

Ok, I got an HP OmniBook 500 (laptop), I have Mandrake 10 installed. I have a Microsoft MN-720 pcmcia wireless. I used ndiswrapper and the card is recognized and is on....

now.. i cant figure out how to get this thing to connect... I did the following...

iwconfig eth1 essid linux
iwconfig eth1 enc xxxxxxxxxxx
iwconfig eth1 up

but I cant get this thing to get an IP.. what am I doing wrong??? I have searched for an iwconfig howto but I have not found anything at all.

Thanks!
Trey

I haven't used mandrake 10 but I thought the standard for linux network interfaces was ifconfig. I may be way off for wireless though. Never tried wireless with linux.

Your wireless card has a virus, or reboot it.

iwconfig is for setting up wireless settings... such as ssid and WEP, it can bring a card up or down just as ifconfig does... but ifconfig does not allow you to set the wireless properties.

no.. linux fixed the wireless card.. however it could not fix the M$ Access Point.. I still think you are right.. a reboot fixed it
