AGP 8X card in 4X mobo

I was thinking about upgrading my video card due to Far Cry game. After looking in to things, I noticed that my ATI 9200 128mb video card is AGP 8X capable but my mobo is only AGP 4X. I am thinking that the video data stream is choked and the video card isn't working max. How much of a difference in the video performance if I change the mobo? 75-90%

I could pick up a 8X AGP for my AMD 2700+ for less than $50. Maybe even get a mobo with 6 channel sound, but then I would need to buy those new head phones.

Current video cards do not do enough processing to utilize the amount of bandwidth 8x aga offers, 1 or 2fps increase, if that.

4x passes about 1gb of data per second.. 8 does about 2gb per sec. FarCry probably passes about 200-400mb per second. If that puts it into perspective for you

I've always wondered about this so I thought I would put it to the test.

I've got a radeon 9500 hacked into a 9700 and I'm running with a athlon XP at 1875mhz.

4x: 12217
2x: 12204
1x: 12122

I can't test 8x since my MB only supports 4x.

actually the current agp slots are limiting the architecture of graphics cards, since data can only be sent one way at a time, the new PCIx slots switch to a serial setup and will allow 4gb in each direction, and should greatly improve graphics potential

What I've liked about the P4's is the way they dissapate heat, the AMD's ( XP ) put all the heat in the center of the cpu whereas the P4's spread the heat over the cpu which is imho a lot better. I dont know much about the new ones ( prescott ) that are coming out.
