Help!!! Toshiba laptop problem!!!!

I turned on my laptop, and it starts to load, Window's ME screen comes up, then it goes to a black screen that says
Window's Millenium Start up menu:
Normal
Logged
Safe Mode
Step by step configuration

I have tried each one of these and each one takes me to a screen that says

Cannot find or load required file KRNL 386.EXE
the file was not found
System halted.

What happend? Is there an easy fix for this? Is there someone on here that can fix it?

Thanks for any help
Andre

Have you searched the Microsoft Knowledge Base for the error to see what it says?

You may need to reinstall your OS. WinME is crap.

Dude i had that exact same problem on my Toshiba laptop... Sent it off to get fixed through Best Buy and it took them a month and a half (they gave me a new one before i got that back). They had to replaced the hard drive.

It's either your hard drive is bad or corrupt system files, but in both cases your data will be lost. U can try taking it to a computer shop and see if they can back up any data from it, but it's gonna cost u a good chunk of change. Contact the manufacturer if u don't have the restore disks and then see if u can load windows.

Data recovery services is not cheap. See if you can find someone with the converter to connect a laptop drive to a full size pc and try and move the data off before it is lost.
