New IP address? How can I change?

How can I change the IP address for my computer?

are talking about cox's ipaddress?? or your internal network ip address??

it might not be able to change if your talked about your one from Cox. Depends on how they do it. You could always do an ipconfig /release and then power down cable modem and pc and see if it changes. It may be tied to your mac address of your NIC. If so then you will need to change it out to get a different IP.

If your talking about internal ip then you need to read the manual for your wireless network gateway.

Most of those are hard coded to 192.168.x.x where you can change any of the last two octets.

Your IP from cox stays the same unless you disconnect your modem for like 72 hours. Either you can call and ask them to change it. If you do the ipconfig and shit, that justs external, if you have a home network setup.

I'm posting for "Rob Sanders"....

This is a home network with a Cable modem going to a wireless router to my laptop, which has a integral wireless lan connection. So we can just call cox and have them change the IP address?

They should change it. My friend did the same thing, but with ATTBI, or now known as Comcast.
