Comcast cable questions

I just got comcast installed and was wondering if I ran a standard cable splitter (what you would use if you have one jack and two tv's) if it would allow two computers to get online.

Thanks

You can run both computers from the modem. Just get a split where you can plug both pc's on one side of the connector and the other end plugs into the modem.

another idea

A splitter like that is only good if you want to see if you can get free cable. If you want to have more than one pc on you need to get either a dsl/cable modem router or use a PC to act as a gateway. Install a hub/switch and connect the pcs to that. There are tons of site on how to do this. Pretty straight forward and easy to set up.

I might be a little simplifying but I do IT/networking for a living so to me its simple. I use a pc running linux to share my cable modem to 4 pcs.

This will also basically give you a firewall and some protection from all the nasty things out on the internet.

Wouldn't that also require two cable modems?? Maybe I'm not understanding but I think you would be better with a router.
