mutiple pc problems

I have a problem starting up I tried to overclock my computer alittle bit at a time. The first time I tried it says on start up system failed due to overclocking so I backed it down to normal.
Still says its overclocked to much and I do not understand this the only way I was able to get it to work is make it not halt on all errors.

Also do you see anything in my pc specs that should be changed for better performance. And whats a good program for spyware removing/preventing

win 98se
amd athlon(tm)xp unsure what cpu is in there I thinks its under 2000
A7N8X mb
512 mb ram
40 gig hd
420 watt atx power supply

first of all.. why are you overclocking?? If you dont have a reason you shouldnt overclock... (although with your powersupply, you should be able to with no problem if you have enough fan too cool it anyways)

Second... I would pull the cmos battery... or reset the bios jumper on the board.. and see if the problem is still there.

the reason I'm overclocking is that this pc should be pretty damn quick but it's just slow as hell so I was going to try to slightly overclock it to pick up performance and I think I have enough fan for it since theres like seven of them and the cpu has a nice big heatsink on it

What if I selected return to defalut in the bios would that be something I could try to see if it cures it

I'm also getting a system failed memory test and I do not understand this one either

Why the fuck are you running Windows 98se with a 1+ghz? upgrade to Windows XP pro/home or Windows 2000! You'll see a HUGE increase in speed

make sure you reset the cmos. There is a jumper that you change/remove.

You'll be fine. Will not affect your harddrive at all.

I dont think overclocking will help you much at all in way of performance. Best thing you can do is upgrade.

check out www.tigerdirect.com for the processor, if your board supports an xp3000 no reason to upgrade your board imo, might want to get some ram as well.
