Wow there are things that are different than good ol redhat...

How the hell do you restart the dns now that it is not a service

I tried rdc restart with no luck...

and oddly enough I do a phpinfo() to find my php.ini file and it is not there....

WTF

Ive started using SUSE and so far I am liking it. It is laid out similar to redhat but comes with reiserfs and seems really easy to setup and maintain. Its more desktop oriented than server oriented though.

im really impressed with reiserfs... Much better than ext2 or ext3 imo. I have a harddrive witha few bad blocks.. the Ext3 kept thinking it should write too.. reformatted and went with reiser and no more probs with it.. that and a fsck only takes about 7 sec on a 20gb partition.

However.. Im very interested in the 2.6 version of SuSE 9.??

Trey what version of slack are you using, and how much memory do you have? I am running 9.1 and have 2gb of ram, yet it only reports 908mb, I have upgraded the Kernel to 2.4.25 hoping that would help but to no avail, my next step is to try 2.6.x once I get some free time to work on it.

I have 9.1 w/ 2.6.4 and 512mb of ram... Do you have high mem support enabled? I've never compiled 2.4.x but there is an option for high mem support in 2.6.x. It reports it correctly with 512 though.

I checked my wifes machine, hers has a 1gb of ram... it only detected 908 as well. I recompiled the kernel (2.6.3) with highmem support (4gb) and whala... it now reports 1gb of ram.
