Why would my taskbar dissapear?

This happens on my Toshiba laptop...Sometimes when I put it to sleep and i turn it back on, the taskbar is gone and it won't reappear. I did check the taskbar settings a few times, it is all set up to where it should be visible at all times. Any ideas? TIA.

You can grab it with the mouse and make it dissapear by pulling it all the way down, maybe your mouse is stuck on it when you wake it back up??? What OS do you have installed?.

It's running Windows XP home edition...but that's not it because there is no way to make it reappear once it's gone. I've tried all of the obvious things like that and nothing has worked.

Hmm, our Dell laptop with XP Home has never done that. Try dragging it all the way over to the rigt of the screen for a day or two and see if that still happens. I'll check on some forums and see if I can find anyone else who has had this problem.

I can get the start menu to pop up by hitting ctrl+escape, or the windows key. The problem is that the taskbar doesn't come back unless I restart. Any other ideas?

I have done some searching around about this and found very little. I did however come across this from a newsgroup:
Quote:
Hi Robin,

I had similiar problems way back using Win98. I found out that my
soundcard wasn't ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface),
complaint. This caused many problems with my computer coming out of
standby. It would lock up my system and my taskbar would disappear. I
would assume most new hardware today is complaint but I would check your
BIOS and any older hardware you may have just in case.
Sorry I cannot offer anything more but it just sounded so familiar I
figured I would write.

Good luck
Grant
What this is telling me is that you may have a driver or some hardware that is incompatible with XP. If you have to option to take it back, since it is only a month old, do that. Maybe they can give you a new one or fix the existing problem.

Appreciate the help Moondog...Whats messed up is that this is my 2nd laptop, the first one was in service by Best Buy for over a month and I bitched enough to get this one as a replacement . I'll check drivers and see if there are any updates I might have missed, but I'm pretty sure I have all the updates. The tasbar comes back randomly too...thanks.
