I have done some searching around about this and found very little. I did however come across this from a newsgroup:
I had similiar problems way back using Win98. I found out that my
soundcard wasn't ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface),
complaint. This caused many problems with my computer coming out of
standby. It would lock up my system and my taskbar would disappear. I
would assume most new hardware today is complaint but I would check your
BIOS and any older hardware you may have just in case.
Sorry I cannot offer anything more but it just sounded so familiar I
figured I would write.
What this is telling me is that you may have a driver or some hardware that is incompatible with XP. If you have to option to take it back, since it is only a month old, do that. Maybe they can give you a new one or fix the existing problem.
