Go to Google, do a search for ffdshow. Download. Install.

If that doesn't work, downloadGSpot. It's an app that will load a movie and tell you what codecs are needed to play the movie and wether you have them installed.

the 4.x and 5.x is the version of the codec, so download divx for windows

i would get the other programs mentioned above too to make sure divx is what you need.

Yeah. It's possible that the codec you need is an audio code ( ogg vorbis or ac3 ) and divx won't fix that. It's good to have GSpot installed in case you run across the problem in the future.

Open GSpot. Click Open at the top, find your file, then at the bottom click the "render" button. It will render the file and tell you all the info on it and wether your computer can play it. To view which codecs you need for audio and video check each ones section. If you don't have the codec, write it down and do a search for it on the net.

You'll end up with something like this:

There is a program called AVIcodec that will tell you if you are missing the codec and can load page from which you can download the file, no searching the web is needed. It will also give you a list of all codecs currently installed.
