w32.blaster worm

I am upgrading a computer and installing xp on it, i have formated and partined the drive and installed xp, i have installed norton av corporate, all this before connecting to the internet, after I connect to the net and start the windws updates I get the error about the computer shutingdown then I run the removal tool for the virus with the computer off the net again but as soon as I connect it hits me again. Here is the question, even though I reformat and partion the drive is the virus not being removed???? What do I do???

Thanks

To me, clowns aren't funny. In fact, they're kind of scary. I've wondered where this started and I think it goes back to the time I went to the circus, and a clown killed my dad.

I would say that, since you just formatted the drive to build it, just reinstall XP and forget about it. You'll make yourself crazy trying to fix it. Just be sure it's not connected to the network until you're going to apply the RPC patches that prevent this worm from infecting your machine.

yep thanks to all the worms and viruses you really should make sure any new systems are behind a firewall when setting them up.

no sense reinstalling it again.... if you take that approach.. you will need to reinstall windows everyday.

Get the patch and tool from symantec put it on a cd, pull hte network cable and isntall it on the infected machine.

Stinger also helps to get rid of that particular virus if it's infected your machine. Just had to get that and agobot off Nicks machine here.
