I hate Perl! We use it some at my office, but I do a lot more in just shell scripting.

Its on my list to learn once I finish the CISSP exam. I'm mostly a windows admin but consider myself a jack of all trades with a security focus.

Sweet! Apparently we have the blaster worm on our network. Im currently writing a perl program that will hunt it down and send a trap to open view.

I love PERL!

ms had a util to scan machines and see if they were patched.

I tested it on my cable modem subnet and it worked fine.

Went well with another excuteable that would attempt to infect unpatched machines

I'm working on getting my vpn working with a new intrusion prevention box I'm somewhat beta testing.

Will that scan an entire network?? What is the name of this doodad...

I am bascially taking cisco logs and parsing an invalid address. I then parse the source address and obtain the userid of the machine that it belongs to. I will then send an snmp trap which will notify our security engineers.

Letme know what the util was called, perhaps that will work better.

Overview
The KB 824146 Scanner tool is provided as a utility to assist administrators. It can quickly identify those Microsoft Windows systems on their network that immediately require the patch described in KB article 824146. The utility can be used to identify systems that have the patch applied as well as those systems that may require further investigation and verification of the patch installation. Microsoft recommends that the patch described in KB article 824146 be applied to all vulnerable systems.
