CD-RW problems, please help

Ok guys, I backup and save exel files every day on a zip, my computer I bought last year didn't come with one so I had to buy an external zip, this new HP didn't come with a zip drive either, so I decided to try the DVD CD writer to save simple WORD and EXEL files. Oh my....I got to talk to a tech guy in INDIA for 35 minutes before I just hung up on him. Should I even mess with this CD crap for DATA or just stick with the ZIP stuff?

LOL. Zip is so ghetto, go with a CD/DVD writer. They aren't that hard to get installed and running. So what's the problem with the DVD writer. Post more info like your OS, DVD writer, writer S/W, etc.

Every time I save any thing, Word document or Excel document, I can't go back and make changes to it and save it as the same name or is says, "this is read-only" I have turned off as much read-only stuff that I can find. And it saves just fine to the hard-drive or the floppy, but is just won't save back to the CD-RW after I make changes. I don't know if this CD crap is all read only or its just the cheap office depot CD's that I have. These CD's are also VERY slow to load info on them, the hard-drive, zip and floppy are much faster.

I have that. It's called a JumpDrive 1.0GB Flash Drive. It's high-priced, about $300.

They also have a 256MB version that you can probably get for under $100.

Not sure how much storage you need.

It has saved my alot of headaches travelling. I bought a laptop for Texas and another one for California, similiarly configured for my needs. Save off to the JumpDrive for travelling. Instead of 10lbs of crap (laptop, power supply, etc.), I got a couple of ounces with me.
