I bought a laptop from someone on this sight last week. Got the hard drive completely cleared, deleted all partitions. Now I am trying to load XP but it wont boot from the CD ROM. I have it selected to boot from the cd rom in the bios but it still wont. Its a dell inspiron 2650. Called dell but they wont help me because im not the originall owner. Does anyone have ANY suggestions?
Do you have a floppy drive? My computer is a big pain in the butt about booting to a CD, so I made bootable floppies for XP. It takes 6 disks but it actually works for me so I don't mind. Here is what you need and instructions: http://support.microsoft.com/default...NoWebContent=1
yeah, i made some of those and they worked pretty good.....almost. Well, the floppies worked, but after i put in the xp disc and created a partition, an error came up and said it was missing a file and could not continue. It forced me to restart. So now it wont let me boot from a disk floppy or even really do anything. It shows the DELL screen, then goes to a screen and says, "Remove disks or other media. Press any key to restart" It gets better though It says this when there are no discs in it, and when i press any key, it just repeats itself and doesnt restart. I dont know what the hell to do now
hey, what's the problem..? this is brandon by the way....shoot me a pm and we can set something up with dell....just curious though...i did all that the night before i sold it, so why did you do it again...?
No worries, got it working. Stupid me for trying to get xp working with FAT32. Also, i think the cd rom maybe on its last leg which could have been why it wouldnt boot from the cd but who knows.
Im working a few people to get the contract changed too so maybe dell will be able to help me out with the cd rom problem.
