Your 450 is more than twice the CPU of my main box, taking donations....

Seriously though, I'm on the cusp of my new box That is a pretty good price!

Hey, I have 2 motherboards with processors that only take SDRAM...wanna sell/trade the ram?

I'm keeping the mini-ITX board but if anyone needs a 700MHz Athlon (proc.+mb) I would trade or sell it. Otherwise I will keep it as a server if I can get SDRAM from somewhere.

Speaking of cheap motherboard combos, I think they had 2400+ Athlon for the same price, around $80.

Hell I do that with my Duron 800 without drama..

For some of us, a 2.5 Celeron would be a big step up.

I'm sure it would be.
I am just use to a computer running multiple programs all at once like

Photoshop 7.0
Dreamweaver
Fireworks

What kind of crap do you run?
Sence you seem you know a whole lot about computers.

Aparently you do not run large progams on you computers sence reading my post up above is a wast of your time.
And if your sticking an ECS motherboard in all your computers with a 2.5Hz Celeron they must be shitty.

just an FYI the newer celerons are really underpowered. I'll try to find the link but I've found some sites that showed benchmarks and a 2.0G Celeron CPU has as much horsepower as a 1G P3.

Underpowerd

Yes, they are and that is why they are so cheap.
When I get home I will post the link, I know where to get it.

I would rather get the Athlon XP combos than Celeron. I would be cautious about ECS motherboards though, they are not known for reliability and my personal experience with them haven't been great either causing me return trips to Fry's in more than one occasion.

2.2GHz celerons run about as fast as a 2.0GHz p4 so I doubt a 2.0 would be on the same level as a 1ghz p3

Plus they are underclocked and run extremely cool compared to the AMD's. I'm impressed with the compile speeds and dvd to divx encoding that I've gotten out of it so far. This box would definatly be able to handle a lot of apps thrown at it at once with 512mb of ram.

As far as ECS's quality, it worked absolutly beautiful for me, its one of the first times I was ever able to put an entire computer together, put the case lid on and have it boot up right the first time without having to do anything extra ( like double check ide master/slave setup! ).

Isn't it amazing how cheap memory is now! I remember paying over $250 for a 8MB stick for my Mac back in 95!

Don't get me wrong, I have built quite a few computers with ECS motherboards and might still buy because of their price. It's just seems that 2 out 3 mb's have some kind of issues and some don't even boot up. More than likely you're going to visit Fry's again, and I wouldn't buy them from internet.

I guess its cheap... I remember when I bought pc133 for my 1.3Ghz two or three years ago its was $45 for 512 sticks

Sami, I hope not, I normally dont have problems with any motherboards, they either work out of the box forever or are dead on arrival. I'm honestly doubt I'll have any issues now that I got slackware up and running and pretty stable.

I'm seriously impressed with the cpu temp that I'm getting at 2.5GHz, compared to what I would get with a 2400XP

I was going more off that since its a recent article running the latest bench software.

From my observations its probably not too far off.

I own a Dell GX150 that is a P3 933mhz and an Inspiron 1100 that has a 2.0Ghz Celeron.

I'll try and run some diags if ya want but from useabilty I cant see much difference between the two.

On the other hand my work destkop is a Dell GX260 2.0G P4 and it runs much faster.

Same for my desktops. We have IBM Netvista's. The general users have 1.7 Celerons while the VP's have P4s. During my setup of all 75 units the P4's did the installs faster and did not hang on some apps like the celeron.

I'm not saying the P4 is worth the $$$ but the AMD's seem worth a look for a budget system

AMD vs p4, yeah I'm going AMD, there is no question on that, I only bought this 2.5GHz because it was cheap as hell and is mucho overkill for what I need it for.

I dont put a bunch of crap on my desktop either, I just know alot of friends of mine who load theres up with it and when I go fix computers you can tell the diference.

I dont have a problem with my computers.
And for the price of a MAC I will never have a problem with my computers.

When I build computers for people sometimes I use ECS motherboards depending on what they are going to use the computer for. The motherboard works fine, but when you start messing with it and putting new hardware on it they will break real easy.

A couple of my friends use AMD Abecx, I realy don't recomend them unless you are just doing bisness aplications only. They are not good for games and graphics at all unless you want to spend the money on them, it's not worth it.

And about the celeron vs. p4 those stats are wrong. 2.2GHz Celeron runs the same as an 2.0GHz P4. ( I wish or I would own a Celeron. )

RAM is getting very cheap along with the processors sence Intell is about to release the new one.

I run a P4 atm but only because I found a good deal on one. For the money (in general) I would go with AMD. Even a 2200+ with 64MB GeForce MX440 will run games just fine. The only difference I have noticed is when I edit my videos, the processing time is much shorter with the [email protected] vs. XP2400+.

Playing games with [email protected] & Radeon 9800 AIW Pro vs. XP2400+ & MX440, the only significant difference is in the quality of the picture, thanks to the Radeon 9800. And no, I'm not playing only old games...

P4 vs AMD

What type of games do you play?
FPS games?

Counter-Strike
Unreal Turnament
Diablo

Any of them?

Did you build your AMD, what are you running on it if so, or did you buy it ffrom the store.

by the way if you are going to go with AMD don't but the Fry's AMD/ECS combo it does not work, if you do deside to get it upgrade the motherboard, to like shuttle or something els other than ECS.

I've built my own/friends computers. Most of them with XP2400+ and ECS K7something mb. With 512MB PC2100 and 64MB MX440 or 128MB FX5200 cards. Most of the problems have been with the mb.

Now I have [email protected], L4VXA2, 512MB PC3200 and Radeon 9800 AIW Pro 128MB. MB/pro. combo wouldn't work at first so I changed them both, then later I had to take the processor back as it stopped working.

Unreal is the only one from the list I have played. AA, MOHAA have been the mostly played latest games and I don't think neither require much power from the machine. Didn't have any problems with UT with the AMD but I was running only 1280x1024. I'm not sure if I have changed to 1600x1200 now for the games that support it, I think I have.

Yeah but still fun to tell people you run your home firewall on a p100 with 64mb of ram

Fry's Slaes person LOL

You work in the MAC department at Fry's?
LOL, you should be shot and hanged.

MACs are for fucking rich fags who dont know how to use a computer and I dont see why they are so great.

MAC and Photoshop

I garentee that my computer can handle opening up a file that size on photoshop 7.0.

I have not actualy opend up something that big but close to it.
I dont make god dame hwy billboards.

And for as much as I built my computer for and what it has on it, it still beats the price of an MAC.
