frys electronics has some real good deals on these right now, I was looking for a tv and saw them I hadnt previously considered them an option because I didnt know anything about them. can you tell me what to look for and what not to get if I was interested in one of these? and how good is the quality really?

damn, thats not a bad deal for that. I'm not really a fan of Infocus, but that's not a bad price at all.

high lumen rating and high contrast ratio are the two major things as far as performance

Have you checked this Dell Projector for $899?

Dell 2200MP Projector

How do the specs compare to the projectors you've been looking at?

2008 Lincoln MKZ
1995 Mustang GT Convertible
2002 F-150 SuperCrew

1995 Ford Taurus SHO
2003 Yamaha R6

Looks about the same, price is about the same, but I think the X1 is no longer being built. The only major difference I saw, is a speaker built into the X1, where the Dell doesn't have one. But who wants to watch a movie on mono?

I think it matches up pretty well. I've never seen any complaints on the quality and I hear its a top pick for the price in the home market.
1000 max ANSI lumens
Just 6.8 lbs/ 3.1kg
Powerful zoom lens
2000:1 contrast ratio!!!

CRT is the way to go on projectors, much better picture quality. Unless of course you can afford a graphics projector. I would try to find used CRT locally so you can test it.
