I'm at work cleaning out the warehouse, seeing whats good and whats getting up in the years.
I spot a old HP Vectra 100mhz monster sitting there. Its a desktop box that we've had in and out of our colo for random dedicated hosting clients. Its ran windows, bsd, linux, you know, all the major stuff.
My boss says its time to end its life and chunk it. baaa what?! I say, I'll take it if were are just going to chunk it. Boss agrees and said if i dont take it that night, then its gone
So I take it home, wondering what the heck I just got into. Its older than sara, and with 32mb of ram, with a scooting fast 100mhz, there isnt much I can do with it. I remember I dont have a pc in my room, I put my main boxes in the living room so everyone can use it ( company, roommate etc... ), and I was wanting to listen to music all the time. Well thats all it took, a few hours later, I got the box up and running linux like a champ, and streaming mp3's from my file server. The box is a headless beast with just a keyboard plugged up to it, I make the playlists on the file server, and just hit the over arrow to change playlists.
Just goes to show, old hardware maybe old, but its still usable!
