linux network setups.. domains??

As most of you know im new to this linux world... but i have a few questions.

Is there a service that allows creating a domain.. kind of like a Windows 2000 Active Directory domain?? i.e. centralized user accounts passwords groups etc???

If anyone can point me in the right direction please do

Thanks
Trey

I believe you can also configure Samba to "emulate" a windows DC but I'm not sure about AD.

2007 Taurus SEL - daily driver
1974 El Camino SS - 400sb

Yes, we have a PDC setup at work that runs samba, its really quite simple, but you have to do a few things to win2k and xp boxes to get them to connect.

Have you tried the new samba 3 with AD support? I'm going to upgrade one of my boxes at work to see if the AD support is any good.

If you have used Samba 3 and AD did you run into any problems?

We are using samba-2.2.7a-8.9.0, it works great, but I've heard some bad ass things about S3, apparently its even FASTER then a windows setup ( doesnt surprise me ). I doubt will upgrade anytime soon as if it aint broke, dont fix it
