USB DVD burner?

Just wondering if the USB burners have decent performance versus a direct IDE version. The only reason I'm considering a USB at all is that my box is full. Or would it be better to get a firewire card and go that route? Basically choosing between Firewire card and burner, or just a USB burner, since all the IDE and RAID channels are currently being used..............opinions!

Firewire burner would be the best way to go, Firewire is what USB should've been, to many problems with USB and windows as is imho anyway.

IDE or SCSI is primo though

yeah I would prefer IDE, but already have 4 on Raid and 4 on IDE so I'm exploring other options to tide me over until upgrading MOBO and processor.

Firewire 400/800 is good. USB 2 will work too, as it's 480Mbit.

But if you don't have USB 2 on your system, if the burner even works with it ... you'll get about 0.7x maximum burn speed with it.

Internal is nice, but external is oh so convenient.
