You can mount NTFS drives, they have kernel modules allowing you to read/write.

Go buy another hard drive, or mount a windows drive via netbios.

There isnt a linux fs, they have different fs formats you can put on them, you can read/write on pretty much any type of FS.

how are you installing linux, have you already install linux onto the drive, or is this new 5gb partation from a new drive you brought on to the machine.

I'm not trying to be an ass, but your questions are so robust in answers, they are hard to figure out what you are actually asking....

You couldnt install anything because you were using a cd to run the os, those are just test cd's, they werent made for you to run off them for ever, the reason rpms cant install is because they couldnt write to your cd.

As far as how big a distro is, ( linux itself isnt that big, I think its about 60mb ) most of them out are 2 or 3 cd's in size, of which you only install about half of that, depending on what you actually need.

That's because you are downloading the entire distro, which includes ever option under the sun. I know with Red Hat if you are doing a simple install (minimal) it's all on the first CD.
