Computer bogs down, running slow all the sudden, what to do/check

It's win xp . It just started running real slow and all the sudden. Do I need to check for a virus? defrag it? disk clean up? This is horrible. Thanks.

All of the above. You can also press CTRL+ALT+DEL and check the performance tab to see if your CPU is working constantly or what. You can also check the Processes tab to see if any system processes are consuming an unusual amount of resources. I resolved the problem you're having once by killing an instance of SVCHost that was consuming 200+ megs of memory.

'99 Camaro SS: Heads/cam/bolt-ons. Sold.
'91 Camaro RS: Stock.

2010 Camaro SS: Hell yes.

a few things you can try:

rebooting your computer

turning it off for a while to cool it down

my computer> c: drive (or any others if you have it partitioned) right click > properties > use the disk cleanup and other tools (defrag check for errors)

in your browser window (the one you're looking at right now): tools > internet options >delete cookis, delete files, clear history, and put the pages of history to 2-3 days (the delete files button sometime takes a couple minutes to process if you havent done it in a while)

start > find > files or folders > go to the advanced tab > look for file types like .wav, .mp3, .wmv etc... especially .wmv if you've been lookin up hella porn, lol,

after all of this reboot again, you should be good to go
