Home page reset

Last night I turned my computer off before I went to bed. I left the cable modem turned on. When I turned my computer on this morning and opened up internet explorer, my homepage was something weird. Somehow it was changed, and I didn't do it! What could have caused this?

Sometimes when you visit websites that are deemed adware or spyware sites, they reset your homepage to theirs without your knowledge. Run a good adware program like Ad-aware or Spybot to get rid of any files or registry entries you may have and reset your home page. You should be fine.

Might also help to reset your homepage to whatever you had it to before and delete your Cookies.

OK, I have a pretty screen shot below with my best paint skills!! I'm trying to learn about computers and what is good and bad on them. What are the XP Hotflix things at the bottom? I have about 12 of them on there. Also, is spybot and spyware blaster supposed to be there?

Go to DOWNLOADS.COM and download Ad-Aware 6.... It'll get rid of your spyware problems.

Whenever you go to a webiste, and it prompts you to download and install something, click NO. Sometimes I'll get another promt that says you have to click YES, I still close it. Those usually are spyware that you don't want or need.

When you run it for the first time, it's gonna take a while, but it'll more than likely find ALOT of shit!

Yeah, that's a bunch, but not bad for an initial scan..

The XP hotfixes are the updates Windows Update installs..

Spybot and the other are spyware/adware detectors...

Look at the results of the scan, and it will give you more details on what is there, and might give you an idea of where not to go when you're browsing..
