Work bought it for me. I think you can find the SL-5600 for about $475 and the WiFi card was about $130 I think.

'it runs linux' means a lot of things, you can play divx videos in wide screen ( ) you can even play doom with it, why youd want to I dont know. You can also plug up a TON of devices to it that you cant with WinCE because of drivers. Imagine having a gps plugged up with a wireless card, you could drive around and map all of dallas with specfic locations of where each open wap is...

Its got a lot more uses, if you're a nerd...

Even ol' billy-boy is using one...

(It should be noted that the backend of the demo was a Linux server running WebSphere and Windows Server 2003, and a Sharp Zaurus PDA running Linux and the Opera browser was used as one of the clients.)

I assume I could do the same with my iPaq 3835?
The wide screen divx sounds like a big priority for me. I'd LOVE to be able to watch flix while doing cardio as compared to just listening to MP3s.

It can definitely do the same thing. You can even install Linux on the Ipaq if you so desired. But all the stuff Abex said it can do, PPC2002, or WM2003 can do as well. I like how he compared it to WinCE. An outdated, under equipped, poor performing pocket OS from 3 years ago.

If anyone wants to buy me the ~$200 GPS card, and the $70ish wireless card, I'd be happy to prove it

damn, and i still have the 5500. i found a linksys wireless cf card on ebay. buy now was 29.99. i think you can find a wireless card for under $70. so if you used a 5500, does your 5600 seem noticably faster?

No I haven't used a 5500. I've looked around Dallas but couldnt find anywhere that has any demos to play with. So I just bought the 5600. Only problem with the 5600 is that since its a new platform I'm having to wait for new kernel development. Open Zaurus is still in the Experimental stage for the 5600. I'm thinking about loading it but just haven't had the time yet.

i guess i'll wait to replace mine then. have you seen the info on the motorola a760. looks pretty nifty. depending on the specs i'm hoping this will be a suitable replacement for my pda phone and zaurus. if it ever comes out.

That looks pretty cool. Having the PDA and phone all on one device would be nice. Hopefully they will add some CF and SD slots to the a760, or at least for the US version of the a760.
