Damn Mortar's on ET!

Played on one server last name for an hour and a half playing on the Axis side. Pretty even sided and both sides were trading off wins and losses. But the Allies had a damn Mortar player that knew his shit and was wrecking havoc with our spawning area (especially on the Gold Rush map). They basically had us Axis players pinned down outside of the bank with MG42's covering the roads in and out and that damn Mortar laying down rounds in the courtyard

Finally managed to make it out and find the bastard and proceeded to frag him with a grenade and machine gun fire

So who plays with the Mortar and do you have any tips on how to use it? I have no idea and I couldn't find any instructions on how to use it.

I read on some forums that when you are aiming with the mortar, it is supposed to show up on the map (hold down G to get the map while you aim), but I don't see anything when trying to aim, so I gave up.

I heard or read that somewhere to but never saw anything in the map either. Whenever I have a Mortar person on my team and I die I try to switch over to there view so I can see what there doing but it's still pretty vague. Sometimes I'll see the red crosshairs and other times I'll see some red brackets.

u don't see the aiming spot but where it hits. a small dot will appear where it lands. (press and hold G down while firing) then adjust as necessary. if someone is using binoculars then a crosshair will show up. what i do is first make a run to find out where the enemy is, where they hid out, and their regular paths to the battle. i proceed to find a hiding spot and use the above method to lay havok to the enemy. but playing mortar can piss some ppl off and being labeled a spawn killer. i think its just part of warfare. kill or be killed.. i tell them i like to take care of the problem at the source.

Thanks for the info and insight. I agree with you , I don't consider it Spawn Killing but a fact of warefare. Still doesn't help them when I go hunting for them and lay down an airstrike

Well I got a chance to play ET this morning and messed around as the Mortar guy. You actually can see in the map where the mortar rounds are impacting which is pretty cool. Just wish I wasn't playing with a bunch of PAN's who didn't know how to spot

the key action is the large map. it will scroll on the screen from right to left. hold the map in position and you can still run set up and fire.
