Linux taking over the desktop world is a long way away, but it will start on the business side, it already has in a lot of places, but no where big enough to jump up for joy about.

IMHO, Sun wont be the company to develop 'it'.

I will retire writing software for Microsoft platforms and make a good living doing it.

Having said that I haven't seen Project Orion up close and personal, I don't know if it was Star Office or not.

The software costs are a little outta whack. I deal mainly with Fortune 1000 folks and I can tell you they haven't upgraded since Office 97. There hasn't been anything that compelling in the suites for them to upgrade.

Office 97 could be had for about $200/user back then. 7 Years, $200 comes out to about 28.50 a year.
