Cute, but let's hear cost and OS... XP w/ MC or not? It's still hard to fight against a Tivo w/ HMO -- especially when using satellite.

Working on prices, but its not going to come with any OS.... if anything I'll throw in a linux cd

And comparing it to tivo.... this isnt just a media box, it also plays, mp3's and runs like a regular computer....

Looks interesting.. Only issues I see are the 200W power supply, and this-

Well, you can only fit one drive in it, so power isnt that big of a deal, not unless you plan on making a server out of it

The reason on the cd drive warning is because of the custom fit for that particular case.

Well, Linux would be great if it appeared that Freezo was 110% effective/easy to use. On the other hand, XP MC would simplify things and avoid adopting Snapstream/All-In-Wonder to record.

Fair enough, however, HMO also plays MP3's and gives access to photos, etc. on your network. Is it a PC that allows you to play with internet porn on your tv, no? On the other hand, try using this PC to record two satellite shows at the same time as you watch pre-recorded show. Absent two serial ports and appropriate sat recievers as well as multiple vid cards, this machine is going to be lucky handling the situation for recording one satellite show via IR blaster control . Cable is another story, but even after going to the trouble to "hook it up" with two tuners, video in will be an issue given one AGP and only one PCI. This would be fun for portable use, but in my opinion forget home use. I could be more in depth, but will hold off until I see a "near free" price tag.

Jesus, I said it was a media box, not an all in wonder xtreme pro with quad video in and 409124123094TB's of space on it This thing is also a great box for lan parties too seeing as the size of it is so... well small... I was just seeing if anyone wanted one so I could talk to my boss about getting a group purchasae. Boss is to busy with other more important quotes right now though.

I think a media PC would be good if you were a college kid or only had cable. You can't beat a DirecTivo for satellite, price or features with a PC, yet. I'm sure someone out there (snapstream, showshifter, Sony PS3) is working on a way to beat Tivo with a PC!

Keep us posted on pricing.

Hence why I said "great for portable use!" LAN parties were exactly what was crossing my mind, however you did refer to it as a multimedia machine which opened the door! haha! The only downside on that respect is that some of the smaller cases have the "carrying handle" up top.

If the price is right, I'm sure you can sell a few to the LAN freaks... Hell, put a plexi case and some cathod/led's all over the place and you could sell a ton to the Honda Civic club members...

I have done a little research on the MSI box, and found a comparison on Tom's Hardware of 4 different micro PC's, and I am prolly gonna go with the ECS EZ Buddie, They are saying that the MSI box as well as the Shuttle, are having cooling problems, due to the lack of airflow. The comparison is here

So is the pricing structure ever going to be "published?" Clearly group purchase benefits are not available at this point, but standard pricing from you source will be the basis of group buy pricing...

Do I need one, no. But do I have a friend who might be attracted by a smoking deal, yes.
