Angry Well I'm still broadband less

The cable line ends right near my house so the signal degredation would probably be the worst in the neighborhood. This is compounded by the fact that the distance between the pole and my house gurantee's that there would be to much signal loss This fucking sucks

I don't know anyone in my neighborhood so it's hard to say. I know my sisters lives roughly about a mile or so away and she's got DSL but she's close to the CO than I am plus there is a local loop in the phone line running through the neighborhood that increases the distance. I've looked into one wireless broadband company and they said the only way I could get it is if I sighned up so many people in the area to get it. Also I know the elementry (sp?) school near me has broadband but it's the school district's connection

You might be able to setup a wireless lan from her house to yours, it would go slow, but you might be able to get it to work. If you can find someone closer that would be better, just tell them you'll split the bill with them, or you'll pay for the whole bill as long as you can have your stuff there etc...

He said that the line in my neighborhood ends right at my house so the signal strength is at it's lowest. Plus he said the distance from the house to the poll is to long and that it would drop the connection alot.

Here is a shot from the pole to the house. The pole is maybe another 20 feet behind me.

A wireless LAN between roughly a mile to a mile and a half. No way! My best bet would be to tap into the schools connection but I don't see that happening

This is a shitty picture but is this what the cable box looks like on the pole? I'm going to talk to a buddy of mine that installs cable in Tarrant county to get an idea on what kind of distance between the pole and the house will cause a loss in signal strength.

dont they have a signal booster that would boost the Db level? Surely they have a cheap device that would enhance an attenuated signal.

They don't have a cheap device, he was talking like $10K for some kind of amplifier/repeater.

Shouldn't be too hard with a directional yagi antenna. Hell, theoretically, you can get 10 miles of strong signal, using 2 Pringles "cantennas" pointing at each other. Do a google for "Cantenna" or "Pringles Can Antenna", and you'll find a wealth of information out there, on how to build your own shotgun style yagi antenna, for around $20.

I'm thinking of doing this, and sharing my connection with the neighbors down the street. Cut my costs down a bit.
