cd drive doesnt show up till i add hardware.

Heres the problem. When i power up or reboot pc it recognizes all my drives and boots normally but if i go into "My Computer" then the D: drive is missing. But i can go into option to "Add hardware" and it adds it back in fine. And then itll work fine. IRQ's are fine, have deleted and reinstalled drivers. Cant find any known issues with drive or updates..Any ideas?

Check the jumper setting make sure you have it jumped correctly I have seen this if cable select is being used,,,thus I would use either master if its master or slave if its slave.

Win XP OS...jumper is set to MASTER...I personally think it may be just a hardware conflict between this brand burner and XP..dunno

CD-burner is set to master on IDE-1..Hard drive is set to slave on same IDE channel. Doesnt matter if i swap them up or put them on different channels..same thing happens. Also tried different IDE cable. no good.

I know you said this doesn't make a difference in it's function... but just a word to the wise, never, ever, ever, ever slave your hard drive to anything else (unless it's another hard drive).

Ever.

It's bad mojo. It won't really harm the drive in any way, but it will greatly reduce it's performance.

Also, it's not a good idea to have anything but another hard drive, on the same channel as a hard drive. It could also negatively affect the performance.

As a rule of thumb, I always put my hard drive(s) on ide1, and my cd(s)/dvd(s) on ide2.
